Product overview
Chemlok 144 is a one-coat, moisture-cure primer for polar substrates including steel, aluminum, brass, e-coated metal, glass, ceramic tile and some plastics. It can also act as the adhesive for encapsulating glass with reaction injection molded (RIM) urethane.
Coating visibility and system role
The primer is transparent on the substrate under normal light. A fluorescent additive makes the coating visible under low- or medium-intensity UV light, helping detect missing coating or poor wetting caused by surface contamination.
For TPE-to-glass encapsulation with Chemlok 487 A＋B, Chemlok 144 is the glass primer. Complete the primer hydrolysis before applying the covercoat.
Application and moisture cure
Clean glass with a vinegar-modified glass cleaner; use a suitable solvent for other substrates. Apply by spray, dip or polyester felt applicator to a dry-film thickness of 1.78–3.81 μm.
Allow hydrolysis for 1–2 hours at 21–32°C and 50–80% relative humidity. For oven-assisted curing at 88°C for 3 minutes, the incoming air should also be at 50–80% relative humidity. Larger parts may need longer to cure. For best adhesion, apply the topcoat or encapsulating polymer within 24 hours after the primer cures.
