Chemlok 234X(NW) is a general-purpose, solvent-based covercoat for rubber bonding. It is used over Chemlok 205 primer on metals and other rigid substrates.
Materials and bonding systems
With Chemlok 205, it can be used with a range of cured and uncured rubber compounds, including NR, IR, SBR, BR, CR, NBR, IIR and CSM. Selection depends on the rubber compound and bonding process.
Application overview
Clean and prepare the substrate before applying the primer, and allow the primer to dry thoroughly before applying Chemlok 234X(NW). The covercoat can be applied by brush, dip, roll coat or spray methods. Stir sufficiently to maintain a uniform mixture.

Film thickness and drying
Xylene or toluene can be used for dilution. Establish the dilution level for the application method and maintain agitation, because dilution accelerates settling.
The general dry-film range is 12.7–25.4 µm. For cured-rubber bonding, the typical range is 20.3–38.1 µm; select the range for the bonding process rather than treating the two as interchangeable.
Allow about 30–60 minutes at room temperature for air drying. Visually inspect the film and confirm adequate drying in accordance with the applicable application instructions. Metal parts may be preheated to a maximum of 65°C before application to accelerate drying. This is a preheat limit, not a vulcanization temperature.
