Product overview
Chemlok 402X is a solvent-based surface treatment for bonding textiles to unvulcanized elastomers. Its solvent system is xylene-based, and most applications require a single coat. It is used in textile-reinforced rubber products such as hoses, belts and diaphragms.
Fabrics and elastomers
Suitable textiles include polyester, polyamide, cotton, rayon and aramid. Chemlok 402X also works on RFL-treated fabric or cord.
Compatible elastomers include natural rubber (NR), polyisoprene (IR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polybutadiene (BR), polychloroprene (CR), nitrile rubber (NBR) and butyl rubber (IIR).
For specialty elastomers such as EPDM and epichlorohydrin rubber, apply an additional covercoat designed for that elastomer over Chemlok 402X. These applications require more than the 402X treatment alone.
Application and drying
Stir thoroughly before use and maintain agitation to keep solids suspended. Apply by dip, brush or spray. Xylene or toluene may be used if dilution is needed; dilution accelerates settling, so agitation remains necessary.
Control coating pickup to meet bonding requirements while retaining fabric flexibility. Dry until the fabric is tack-free and the solvent has fully evaporated: approximately 30–60 minutes at room temperature, or 10–15 minutes at 65°C in an oven. Avoid excessive heat during drying.
Chemlok 402X is moisture sensitive. Prepare only the quantity needed for several hours of use to limit moisture exposure.
