Product overview

Chemlok 487 A+B is a two-component system for bonding thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) to metals, glass, thermoplastics, thermosets and other elastomers during injection molding.

Mixing the two components

Stir Chemlok 487A thoroughly, then add Chemlok 487B while continuing to stir. Use the ratio for the chosen measuring method:

Measuring basis 487A : 487B
By weight 100 : 13.6
By volume 100 : 15.0

Mix thoroughly before use and keep the mixed system in an enclosed vessel to prevent moisture contamination.

Coating and glass encapsulation

Clean the substrate to remove oil, grease, mold release agents and other contaminants. Apply by dip, brush or spray to a dry-film thickness of 17.8–25.4 μm. This requires a wet film of 170–244 μm.

For TPE-to-glass injection molding, apply Chemlok 144 primer to cleaned glass and allow it to hydrolyze thoroughly before applying Chemlok 487. Dry the covercoat for 1 hour at room temperature, or 3–10 minutes at 93°C. Preheat the primed and coated glass to 121°C before injection molding. Handle demolded assemblies carefully and allow 24 hours before testing.
