Product overview
Chemlok 5150 promotes adhesion of uncured fluoroelastomers (FKM) to metal. For fluoroelastomers with an incorporated cure system, it also works on mechanically prepared or phosphatized metals, including those used in dynamic seal production. It also bonds fluoroelastomers to stainless steel, aluminum and brass.
Selection features
- Low viscosity supports dip and spray application.
- Helps avoid staining or discoloration of non-black elastomers.
- Provides resistance to Reference Fuel C and No. 2 diesel.
- Accommodates different fluoroelastomer formulations and post-cure processes.
Application and curing
Remove oils, grease, rust and oxide layers from the metal using suitable chemical or mechanical preparation. Apply by dip, tumble spray or conventional spray. No agitation is required before or during use; methanol or ethanol may be used if dilution is needed.
Allow the coating to air-dry. If forced-air drying is used, keep the temperature below 93°C.
The cure-temperature range is 165–188°C. Select the post-cure schedule for the rubber formulation and part thickness; exceptionally thick parts require a staged post-cure approach.
