Chemlok AP-133 Silicone and Specialty Elastomer Bonding Treatment

Chemlok AP-133 is a clear, one-coat surface treatment for bonding uncured silicone rubber to metal, glass, plastics and textiles. It also supports selected fluoroelastomer, acrylic-rubber and epichlorohydrin-rubber applications.

• Silicone types VMQ, PMQ and PVMQ: peroxide-cured systems.
• EPDM, NBR and HNBR: peroxide-cured systems.
• Additional elastomers include FKM, ACM and epichlorohydrin rubber.

The elastomer formulation, cure system and substrate must be considered together when selecting the bonding process.

Remove oils, grease, rust and oxide layers from metal. Prepare nonmetallic surfaces for their material type: fabrics are normally scoured to remove sizing, glass can be cleaned in an alkaline bath, and plastic surfaces are solvent-cleaned.

Apply a uniformly thin coat by brush, spray or dip. Repeated brushing or poor drainage after dipping can impair performance. For porous substrates such as heavy fabrics, control adhesive pickup to avoid an excessive deposit and fabric stiffening. Dispense only enough for a short working period because the solvents evaporate rapidly in open containers.

Allow the coating to air-dry for approximately 10–30 minutes at room temperature. Porous substrates may require longer drying to allow the solvent to evaporate completely. Allow longer drying times in humid conditions. Parts may be vulcanized after air-drying.
