Product and materials
Chemlok BM-1 promotes adhesion of nitrile rubber (NBR) to metal during rubber vulcanization. Suitable metals include steel, stainless steel and aluminum-, iron- or copper-based alloys.
It provides resistance to heat, water, salt spray, oils and various solvents. Confirm the required resistance under the actual service conditions.
Surface preparation and coating
Remove oils, grease, rust and oxide layers from the metal using appropriate chemical or mechanical preparation. Apply by brush, dip or roll coating to obtain a uniform film without runs or tears.
Dilution is generally unnecessary. If required, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or anhydrous ethanol may be used.
Drying and vulcanization
Dry coated parts in clean air for at least 30 minutes at room temperature, or for approximately 5–10 minutes at 60–80°C in a hot-air oven.
The recommended vulcanization-temperature range is 140–180°C. Vulcanization time depends on the rubber formulation; the drying times above do not define the vulcanization cycle.
