Product overview
LORD JMC-500K is a thermosetting phenolic coating designed to protect magnets against corrosion and moisture where a thin coating film is required.
Coating application
Remove oil, dust and rust from the surface before coating. Stir thoroughly before dispensing or applying the material, and maintain a uniform dispersion of solids during use.
The coating can be spray or dip applied and heat cured. LORD JMC-500ST is a corresponding thinner; establish the dilution and curing conditions for the applicable coating version and magnet geometry before production.
Typical properties
The properties and processing conditions below are historical references. Confirm their applicability to the supplied material before production.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Black liquid |
| Nonvolatile content by weight | 24–28% |
| Viscosity at 25°C, spindle 2, 30 rpm | 10–75 mPa·s |
| Specific gravity at 25°C | 0.95–0.99 |
Typical values are for reference, not product specifications.
Film formation and heat curing reference
The reference dry film thickness is 10–30 µm. Before curing, leave the coating for 5–10 minutes at room temperature or in a well-ventilated drying oven at 60–70°C, to help avoid bubbling and sticking. The heat-cure reference is 150°C for 15–30 minutes, with time depending on magnet thickness.
These are coating-process conditions, not an operating-temperature rating for the finished magnet.
