Product overview
MEGUM 3290-1 is a solvent-based, one-coat adhesive for bonding fluorocarbon rubber (FKM) to metals and other rigid substrates during vulcanization.
Materials and applications
Bonding substrates include hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel, stainless steel, aluminum and copper, as well as thermoplastics such as polyamide and polyester.
MEGUM 3290-1 also has an application in bonding polyimide insulation in cable assemblies. This application should be assessed separately from rubber-to-metal vulcanization.
Application overview
Brush, dip or spray application can be used. Metal surfaces require degreasing followed by suitable mechanical or chemical pretreatment. Select dilution and curing conditions for the particular materials and process.
Formulation and film characteristics
MEGUM 3290-1 uses an ethanol-based solvent system and forms a flexible adhesive film. For cable applications, flexibility and bonding of the polyimide insulation need to be assessed within the cable construction and manufacturing process.
