Parlock PC41 Rubber Bonding Covercoat

Coating system and materials

Parlock PC41 normally forms the covercoat over Chemlok 205 or Chemlok 207 primer. The primer supports adhesion to the substrate and environmental resistance. Selected applications can use PC41 as a one-coat treatment; confirm the system for the actual rubber compound and substrate.

Compatible elastomers include natural rubber (NR), polyisoprene (IR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polybutadiene (BR), polychloroprene (CR), nitrile rubber (NBR), butyl rubber (IIR) and EPDM. The product provides resistance to heat, oil and corrosive conditions.

Preparation and application

Remove oils, grease, rust and oxide layers from the metal by suitable cleaning and surface preparation. Where a primer is used, allow it to dry thoroughly before applying PC41.

Stir thoroughly before use and maintain agitation during application. If dilution is needed, use xylene or toluene and determine the amount for the application method. Dilution accelerates settling, making continued agitation especially important.

Apply by brush, roll coat, dip or spray to obtain a thin, uniform film. The dry-film thickness should be 12.7–25.4 μm. Excessively thick coats can dry poorly and move during molding.

Air-dry for at least 30 minutes at room temperature, ensuring the film is thoroughly dry. Hot-air ovens or tunnels at temperatures up to 90°C can shorten drying time.
