Product overview
Sipiol WL 2010-23 forms a smooth anti-friction coating for off-line application in automotive sealing-system production. It is a water-based, two-component system that requires Sipiol WV 21 F curative.
Coating function
The coating combines low friction with abrasion resistance and elasticity. It helps reduce noise where the coated surface contacts painted metal or glass.
Application overview
Remove surface contaminants, then prime the substrate with Sipiol WP 8556 or Cuvertin X 8536 primer. For low-polarity substrates, alternative surface preparation such as plasma treatment is recommended to improve adhesion. Confirm the suitable primer or alternative treatment for the substrate before production.
Stir the coating thoroughly at low speed and incorporate the required curative before application. Brush or HVLP spray application can be used. Maintain agitation in the spray container to prevent sedimentation, and select the curing schedule for the production line.
Typical properties and working life
| Property | Unmixed coating |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Black liquid |
| Viscosity at 25°C, Brookfield LVT, spindle 2, 30 rpm | 400–600 mPa·s |
| Solids by weight, 2.5 g dried for 30 minutes at 130°C | 31–36% |
Typical values are for reference, not product specifications.
With Sipiol WV 21 F at a coating-to-curative ratio of 100:3 by weight, the mixed coating has a typical working life of 8 hours at 25°C and solids by weight of 33–36%, using the same drying test.
Mixing, film thickness and curing
Add the curative slowly while stirring continuously, then filter through a 200–400 µm sieve before use. Deionized water can be used to reduce viscosity; confirm the dilution level for the application.
Apply above 10°C, with substrate temperature no higher than 120°C. The recommended dry film thickness is 10–20 µm. Cure within 90–200°C, adjusting dwell time to line speed and oven length; 15 minutes at 130°C is a typical schedule, rather than a universal cycle for every line.
Storage
Shelf life is one year from manufacture in the original, unopened container at 5–30°C. Prevent freezing, keep the container tightly closed between uses and keep it away from direct heat.
