Compatible rubbers and substrates
THIXON OSN-2-EF-X is a general-purpose, one-coat adhesive for natural rubber (NR), polybutadiene (BR), polyisoprene (IR), chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polychloroprene (CR) and acrylic rubber (ACM).
Suitable metal substrates include hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel, stainless steel alloys, brass, aluminum and galvanized metal. The adhesive can also bond rubber to synthetic fibers such as nylon and polyester. Bonded assemblies offer resistance to heat, salt spray, oil and water immersion.
Coating for molding and vulcanization
Degrease the metal and use suitable mechanical or chemical pretreatment, such as grit blasting or phosphating. Mix thoroughly before use. Apply by brush, dip or spray, maintaining agitation during dipping and spraying to prevent settling. Brush application uses the undiluted product.
For molding and vulcanization, the recommended dry-film thickness is 15–38 μm. Dry thoroughly for 30–45 minutes at 25°C; lower temperatures require longer drying. Typical forced-drying options are 5 minutes at 82°C or 2 minutes at 105°C. Drying temperature must not exceed 121°C.
The molding vulcanization temperature range is 121–232°C. Select the cycle for the rubber formulation and part.
Bonding already vulcanized rubber
OSN-2-EF-X also supports bonding of already vulcanized rubber, including rubber-to-rubber post-vulcanization bonding. This is a separate process requiring appropriate surface preparation, heat and pressure, and compression throughout curing and cooling. Confirm the specific preparation, film thickness and bonding cycle for the assembly before use.
