Materials and bonding role
Ty-Ply BN promotes adhesion of nitrile rubber (NBR), polyacrylate rubber (ACM), epichlorohydrin rubber (ECO) and millable polyurethane rubber to metal or other rigid substrates during vulcanization. Most applications require only one coat. The treatment provides resistance to oils, fuels and solvents, with suitability to be checked for the actual compound and exposure.
Preparation and coating
Clean the metal to remove oil, grease, rust and oxide layers. Apply to stainless steel, aluminum, brass and other nonferrous substrates within 30 minutes of cleaning. A longer interval can be used for ferrous substrates such as steel if no rust forms.
Stir thoroughly before use and maintain sufficient agitation during application to keep the solids suspended. Apply by brush, dip or spray, with a dry-film thickness of 7.6–12.7 μm. Brush application normally uses the product without dilution; dip and spray applications may require dilution in accordance with the technical data sheet.
Drying and molding considerations
Before processing, dry for at least 30 minutes at room temperature, or 10 minutes at 49°C.
Transfer or injection molding can sweep the coating from the substrate. Where this occurs, bake the dried film for 10–20 minutes at 121°C, allow it to cool, then apply a second coat of Ty-Ply BN. Dry the second coat before proceeding with the normal curing process.
