Product overview
Chemlok 213 is a solvent-based adhesive for bonding castable and reaction injection molded (RIM) polyurethane elastomers to metal. It supports polyether and polyester castable systems based on TDI or MDI, as well as millable urethane and selected thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU).
One-coat and primer-assisted use
For RIM polyurethane on aluminum or steel, Chemlok 213 can be used directly without a primer or prebake. Where increased resistance to water, salt spray and temperature exposure is required, it can be applied over Chemlok 219 primer. The two-coat system has its own prebake requirements.
Application and drying
Clean and prepare the metal to remove oils, grease, rust and oxide layers. Apply a uniform film by brush, spray or dip. Keep the substrate at 82°C or below during application to avoid film bubbling. The dry-film thickness should be 19.05–31.75 μm; excessive film build can reduce performance.
Allow coated parts to air-dry for 30–60 minutes at room temperature. Forced drying may be used at temperatures up to 93°C.
When using Chemlok 219 primer, apply and air-dry the primer before applying and air-drying Chemlok 213. For optimum performance of this two-coat system, the recommended prebake is at least 2 hours at 121°C. Large parts such as roller cores may need 4–8 hours at 121°C, depending on size.
