Seal applications and coating function
Sipiol WL 1025-21 is a water-based, single-component automotive weatherstrip coating for EPDM and sponge rubber secondary seals, frameless-door seals and convertible sealing systems. Its textured coating combines abrasion resistance in rotating textile and denim tests with chemical resistance and elasticity.
The low-friction surface improves glass sliding, reduces sticking to glass and helps reduce noise at contact with coated metal and glass. In addition to in-line production, the coating is suitable for off-line application when used with a thickener.
Surface preparation and viscosity adjustment
Remove surface contamination. For difficult-to-bond or dense extrusions, Sipiol WP 8556 or Cuvertin X 8536 primer can be used. Plasma treatment is another option for improving adhesion to low-polarity substrates; select the preparation method for the actual substrate.
Stir thoroughly at low speed. Deionized water can reduce viscosity, while Sipiol TH 2 thickener can increase it; confirm the addition level for the process. Filter through a 250–400 μm sieve and keep the spray container agitated to prevent settling.
Spray application and curing
Apply by HVLP spray at temperatures above 10°C, with substrate temperature no higher than 120°C. The recommended dry-film thickness for optimum performance is 10–30 μm.
Cure at 130–200°C. Dwell time depends on line speed and oven length. A typical condition is 1–2 minutes at a surface temperature of 180°C. Use water to clean the equipment.
