Seal applications and surface properties
Sipiol WL 1026-21 is a water-based, single-component automotive weatherstrip coating for EPDM and sponge rubber secondary seals, frameless-door seals, convertible sealing systems and sunroof seals. It is designed for in-line application and can also be used off-line with a thickener.
Its micro-textured surface provides abrasion resistance against rotating textile, chemical resistance and elasticity. The low-friction coating improves glass sliding, reduces sticking to glass and helps reduce noise at contact with coated metal and glass surfaces.
Surface preparation and coating preparation
Remove surface contamination, then apply Sipiol WP 8556 or Cuvertin X 8536 primer. For low-polarity substrates, alternative surface preparation such as plasma treatment is recommended to improve adhesion. Select the preparation method for the actual substrate.
Stir the coating thoroughly at low speed. Deionized water can be used to lower viscosity, while Sipiol TH 2 additive can increase it; confirm the addition level for the process. Filter through a 190–260 μm sieve and keep the spray container agitated to prevent settling.
Application and curing
Apply by HVLP spray at temperatures above 10°C, with substrate temperature no higher than 120°C. The recommended dry-film thickness for optimum performance is 8–20 μm.
Cure at 130–200°C, selecting dwell time for the line speed and oven length. A typical condition is 1–2 minutes at a surface temperature of 180°C. Equipment can be cleaned with water.
